Eyelevel, a not-for-profit artist run centre and bookstore in Halifax, is seeking a Treasurer to join their Board of Directors.
Eyelevel is located in K’jipuktuk (Halifax) on the unceded territory of the Mi’kamq and is committed to the presentation, development, and promotion of contemporary art. Eyelevel Gallery Society evolved from Inventions Gallery which was established by a group of women artists. In 1974 they changed their name to Eyelevel Gallery Society and opened its membership to include all genders.
Eyelevel seeks to offer an alternative to the practices and mandates of established institutions and sponsors cultural activities including music and dance performances and media arts projects. Through a range of programming, Eyelevel has established itself as a supportive environment that fosters the research and development of innovative artistic practices. They have been active players in the discussion and presentation of contemporary visual art in Halifax for more than 40 years.
The Board of Directors at Eyelevel are an enthusiastic group of Artists and Art Workers dedicated to creating opportunities for local and national artists. Located in the North End of Halifax, Eyelevel actively works to engage with the community and being a member of the Board involves working closely with artists via programming and fundraising; such as artists residencies, BIPOC movie and book series, public art installations, and dance parties.
About the Treasurer Role
The Treasurer is in charge of Eyelevel’s funds and other financial assets and oversees all accounts and financial records. Chairing the Finance Committee, the Treasurer is also responsible for presenting an unaudited statement and budget for the following fiscal year at each Annual General Meeting.
