Our client, the Whynot Group of Companies, is seeking a Controller to join their dynamic, entrepreneurial organization in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. Situated in their corporate head office in Kentville, they are seeking the right talent to support their current and projected growth.

Whynot Group of Companies operates 3 well-known brands, Kent Fields Rental Properties, Boston Pizza and the Quarterdeck Resort.

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is a valued member of the management team, responsible for the full accounting cycle, enduring timely and accurate financial reporting for 8 operating companies and supervision of a small team of accounting support and property management professionals.

As a growing, evolving group of companies,  there will be an opportunity for creation and implementation of company processes and controls, as well as work flow review and other progressive initiatives. In addition to creation of management reports, the Controller will also play a key role in the administration of their newly implemented operating property management software, Yardi.

The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in business or accounting, and minimum 3-5 years’ senior accounting level experience. A CPA (Certified Professional Accountant) designation completed or in progress will be an asset, or a combination of an accounting degree and strong management and accounting experience.

Previous supervisory experience will be considered an asset and strong technical and computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required. Prior experience within entrepreneurial environments is also an asset. Qualities the successful candidate will possess include critical thinking, a proactive approach and desire to contribute new ideas. You have the proven ability to communicate effectively with employees and external parties, and the ability to build and grow professional relationships.
