Interim Controller

Our client is seeking an Interim Controller for their office in Halifax. This is a contract opportunity for approximately four months. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Interim Controller will oversee all financial reporting and systems, internal controls and audits (internal and external), accounting, insurance, and tax compliance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all reporting and deadlines are met
  • Evaluating, analyzing, and recommending improvements and efficiencies to accounting policies and procedures, internal controls, financial reporting systems, and investment activities
  • Assisting with financial planning budget processes and analysis
  • Managing the Payroll function
  • Managing AR and AP processes
  • Managing annual audit activities
  • Assisting in hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff
  • Maintaining knowledge of and reporting on trends that are critical to financial performance

Requirements:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation
  • 3+ years’ relevant experience
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and problem resolution skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and consistently meets all deadlines
  • Adaptability, determination and ability to take initiative
  • High comfort with learning new systems and processes
  • Positive, proactive approach
