Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs

Representing over 4000 professional accountants newly unified under one banner, our client, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia (CPA NS), is seeking a highly professional, solutions oriented Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs. This position’s mandate is to protect the interests of the public and the integrity of the profession, promote and increase members’ competencies, and regulate members’ conduct.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working out of their new downtown Halifax office, you will play an integral role as part of the senior management team. The Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs will work with a committed group of professionals in the creation and development of this trusted organization during a very exciting and vibrant period. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and overseeing a regulatory operational plan
  • Developing and overseeing the organization’s disciplinary processes
  • Ensuring compliance with licensing standards and other functions of the Public Accountants Board
  • Developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies
  • Leading the process for investigating and resolving complaints received against members
  • Overseeing the coordination and performance of inspections of public accounting firms in Nova Scotia

The ideal candidate will possess a Chartered Professional Accountant designation and a minimum of five years’ experience at the senior level, ideally with solid public practice experience. Additionally, the successful candidate will have exceptional strategic and operational leadership experience, an advanced foundation and commitment to regulatory standards and processes, outstanding team building ability, and an impeccable and spotless professional reputation.

Key competencies you possess as a well-rounded professional include a high degree of initiative, accountability, integrity, and innovation. You combine exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a committed approach that consistently shows adaptability and ability to manage conflicting priorities. Experience in conflict resolution, facilitation, handling difficult discussions, and applying sound professional judgement is required.
